Decorating Ideas utilizing Cans & Bottles!

Even if you rent, you can personalize your space.  Warning:  Always check with your landlord before removing or adding any fixture.  Once you've gotten the okay from your landlord, you are ready to make these amazing fixtures.  Most landlords don't mind as along as you put the original fixture right back where you found it before you move....some landlords might like the new one so much, they won't mind if you leave it....who knows?

But what do you do if your landlord doesn't want you to alter his property at all or if you don't want to leave them when you move?  You can still make these amazing fixtures.

Instead of wiring them for electricity, you can use candles.  Another way to make them more portable would be to hang them from your ceiling with plant hooks and add an actual plug in type cord to the fixture so you can hang your fixture and then plug it in rather than hardwire it.

Here are some great ideas for empty coffee cans, mason jars (or any pretty jars with a screw top) and empty paint cans!

This is actually SO easy!  Go to Michael's (or your favorite hobby store) buy 4 lamp kits, drill holes in the lids and board, thread the lamp cords through the board, connect the wires and voila!!  Instant mason jar lamp. However, it's the whole connect the wires thing that stumps me every time....so I took mine to a local lighting company and they did that for me.  Still cheaper than purchasing them already made AND I had an extra bonus in that I was able to pick and choose the materials.  Win-win. BTW they are using rods normally intended to drop a ceiling fan.

Yet another use for those pallets I mentioned in an earlier post!  This one I know I can do because there's no electrical involved!

What a great light!  I may just have to make a visit to my friendly electrician when I get this assembled!  Notice the first one is made utilizing a wire basket!

This would look awesome over my sink!

Nothing beats the playful light of a punched tin shade!

These paint can lights are great for an industrial look!

These crafty ideas are super easy.  Pick your materials, put them together and then (in the case of people like me, who are electrically challenged) head down to your local lighting or electrical company and get them to wire it up for you!  Done!

Enjoy your space!

  1. REMOVE my COPYRIGHT PROTECTED IMAGES that you have used illegally. Proof of ownership is here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/24983962@N03/6805072598/in/set-72157637246912593 and here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/24983962@N03/9361891648/in/set-72157637246912593
Remove and contact me when this has been completed. Please, do not use images unless you know the source and then ask for permission properly also.

  2. How nice of you to leave a comment. Especially loved the all caps used for emphasis. Quite honestly, since I made no attempt to remove your advertisement which is prominently located in the picture, I didn't see an issue with sharing (and thus promoting) your product. Apparently you didn't see it that way, sad to say. Certainly I'll remove it. As for contacting you when I've done it - if you want to make sure I did it - then you just need to check this blog later and see for yourself. Ever hear the old saying "you get more flies with honey than vinegar"??....apparently you haven't.

    1. You are breaking the law. I shouldn't need to contact you about this, as it's something that you should already know. There are rules with using images. These are not rules I set up. There are legal licenses that go with images. There are many articles online about how to blog, how to use images legally, and how you shouldn't use images that are copyright protected. Your posting your reply proves that you saw my reply and know there are legal licenses behind my images, yet you still continue to break those laws. I was kind enough to let you know that you were using them illegally. I should have filed a copyright complaint against you instead of letting you know. I can do that instead.

    2. Look (who ever you are) The images that I used did not show a copyright stamp on them ANYWHERE. At all. Anytime I use a photo that has such a stamp on them - I without fail ask permission. And yes, you most certainly do have to notify me of my breach and allow me the chance to "cure" the situation prior to just filing a lawsuit. Honestly, had you emailed me rather than posting publicly on my blog - we wouldn't even be in this discussion - however, you opted the "Let's be a bully" and the ever popular "public shame" route rather than the polite route. As I stated the photo's that I used did not have a copyright stamp on them and to be honest I have no way of knowing if you do indeed "own" these images. So until you send me proof that you do - these photo's are staying right where they are. Again, I find it suspicious that the photo's on my blog are absent the prominent cc markings of the ones you sent to me. How am I to know that you are indeed the owner? Am I just to take your word for it because you have raised such a stink about it? As I stated earlier, had you not been such a prick about your approach - this conversation would not have been necessary. But you were so it is.

    3. IF you would leave a way to contact you, I would certainly email you directly. IF you read my initial comment, I post the sites that give proof that my images are copyright protected. IF you go there, you can read about that. If you found my images somewhere online where the copyright sign was cropped out or deleted, that is not something I have done. I contacted you to point out that you are using images illegally and I gave you the proof to show where my images are and that they are copyright protected. When someone contacts you to let you know you have used their images illegally, the way you respond is you apologize and say you will remove the images immediately. Again, there are MANY articles online about using images and how to use them legally/properly. I shouldn't need to contact you in the first place about this.

    4. This is the deal. Just because a nameless/faceless entity contacts me purporting to "own" a photo does not mean that they do. It is just as easy for someone to add a cc mark as it is to remove it. Actually, I think it might be easier to add than to remove. Had I not been so meticulous in my avoidance of adding any photo's to my blog with the cc marks on them, then of course, I would apologize and remove. Also, had you not been such a prick - again, I'd apologize and remove. I take great umbrage at your tone and the insinuations contained in your comments. I am not stupid, this is not my first rodeo and I am not unreasonable. But I will not jump through hoops for some anonymous person who happens upon my blog and decides they own something that they aren't willing to prove that they own. Just because you take me to a link does not offer proof that you indeed own anything but perhaps a link and a doctored up picture (or two). There are several types of copyrights and I need to know which type you have applied to these photo's if indeed they are actually yours. Tell you what.....you apologize for your rudeness and I'll remove them immediately - in a flash. Otherwise, I'd like to have more proof that these indeed are yours and that they are indeed covered under the proper copyright law that forbids the "fair use" of stock images. Up to you. I'm weary of this exchange.
